James Melton grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska. Before becoming an arborist,
he raced mountain bikes, and led bike tours across the Western United States.
James has been an ISA certified arborist since 2000. He worked for West Fork Nursery, and then took a position as crew
foreman with the Wright Tree Company, a line clearance contractor. Wright moved James to the Boulder mountain region,
and he has been climbing and working on trees here ever since. He also worked at Parker Tree and spent 3 years as a
supervisor at Magnolia Tree in Boulder. He joined Berkelhammer Tree as a climber/foreman in the spring of 2007.
James has competed at a very high level in tree climbing competitions for about a decade. His highest finish was 2nd,
in the 1999 Midwest Chapter Masters Challenge. He is an avid backpacker, fly fisherman ,and recreational tree climber.
James lives in Longmont, CO.
